Kids, Teens and Family Therapy

Sometimes families struggle and need support to communicate in healthy ways and work together.  Or something difficult has happened and everyone needs help figuring out how to move forward.    Kids and teens may have some intense feelings and behaviors (or withdraw) which come from somewhere, right?  They need us adults!  Don't give up.  We can help them and I can help support you.  We all know parenting is not easy.

Children, teens and families may have a variety of issues.  So it's hard to say what specific models will be needed.  However, I am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior (TF-CBT) therapy so I am trauma informed.  Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is a preferred therapy for depression and anxiety.  I have had lots of experience using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills with children and families as well.  Validation is a DBT skill that can be very helpful tool for family members to hear each other's concerns.  I'm also trained in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) which is a very specialized treatment for children (ages 2 to 6) with trauma and/or behavioral problems by giving parents tools to improve their relationship with their child and consistent strategies to use to manage behaviors.  I can use helpful PCIT tools in therapy; I am currently not providing regular PCIT.  I've also completed a year long behaviorally based training which is really helpful to be able to pinpoint the function of behaviors.  I can help you develop a behavior system to increase behaviors you want to see.  I also enjoy helping families build stronger bonds.  With eight years of experience providing intensive home based family therapy through the Home Based and Infant Mental Health models, I have confidence that I can help your child, teen or family.  Your family will need to put in the work to create sustainable change but I will support you through the laughable and very tough moments.
